brief
The Remains of the Day reflects on the quiet passage of time and the memories that endure within it—like distant sounds echoing from the darkness. Fragments of the past surface and fade, leaving behind traces of feelings once held—echoes that slowly dissolve yet continue to linger in the present. Layers of Chinese ink slowly gather and overlap across the surface, each mark holding a moment in time. Through this gradual accumulation, the work records moments of attention and presence. Each mark becomes a trace of what remains, even as memory begins to fade. Between light and darkness, remembering and forgetting, past and present quietly converge. The works invite us to pause and notice what lingers—the quiet traces left behind as each moment passes.
BIO of Artist Jiratchaya Pripwai
Jiratchaya Pripwai (b. 1983, Kalasin, Thailand) is a contemporary visual artist recognized for her intricate, meditative abstract drawings and paintings. Working predominantly with ink, acrylic, and graphite on paper and canvas, Pripwai constructs disciplined, luminous compositions through rhythmic, repetitive linework and subtle tonal shifts. Her labor-intensive mark-making transforms personal emotional transitions and organic temporal cycles into minimalist cartographies of memory, breath, and inner stillness.
Pripwai holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Chiang Mai University and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Silpakorn University. A significant figure in contemporary Thai abstraction, she has staged solo exhibitions internationally and regionally, notably with Numthong Art Space in Bangkok, Jing Jai Gallery in Chiang Mai, and Galerie Odile Ouizeman in Paris. Her career includes artist residencies at Centre Intermondes in La Rochelle, France, and Thaillywood in Chonburi. Pripwai was awarded the Bronze Medal at the 56th National Exhibition of Art and First Prize at the 10th Panasonic Contemporary Painting Competition, and was selected by ten Thai National Artists for an official museum tour in the United States. She lives and works in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
