brief

We spend our lives becoming strangers to who we are.

We are shaped long before we can choose: by expectation, fear, and the steady gravity of comfort. We learn to inhabit identities the way a hand learns a glove, protective, defining, until indistinguishable from the skin beneath. Yet something keeps moving inside us, a restlessness pressing against the walls of our current reality.

Edge of Self explores the threshold where that learned self can no longer hold the self beginning to emerge. The works move as an emotional choreography: restraint against release, certainty against longing, the body caught mid-gesture between who it was told to be and who it suspects it might become. This is composed chaos, discipline stretched to its breaking point and made visible, inviting reflection on the limits we inherit, the ones we create, the ones we accept, and to seek the unknown beyond them.

Here, dissolution is not disappearance but reorientation, a return to something more instinctive than the armor we once fitted ourselves into.

The edge is where pressure, held long enough, becomes transformation, and transformation becomes the long way home.

BIO of Artist Filadelfa Rodriguez

Filadelfa Rodriguez (b. 1989) is a Singapore-based Filipino artist whose abstract paintings explore emotion, rhythm and fluidity. With studies in both Interior Architecture and Journalism, she values storytelling as a core element of her practice, revelling in colour and organic forms to express depth in the everyday. Her background in spatial design shapes her sensitivity to composition and to how each work adds weight to the spaces it occupies. For Rodriguez, art lies not only in what is painted, but also in the harmony that emerges when artwork and setting move as one. Creating is her way of grounding an overactive imagination and an ever-seeking mind.

Jansene Alegre (b.1991) is a Singapore-based Filipino Creative Director and Fine Arts graduate working at the intersection of strategy, art, and storytelling. His multidisciplinary practice spans branding, photography, and abstract painting, united by a belief that creativity is not confined to a single medium but expressed through different forms. Whether shaping brands, capturing moments, or creating paintings, his work seeks to evoke emotion, provoke reflection, and foster meaningful human connection.
