Suddenly an eclipse, day for night, and in this surreal light the plants begin to sing. The exhibition Night Gerhana by Marie Ouazzani & Nicolas Carrier explores Singapore's hybrid ecosystem and brings together a body of work created during their discovery of this garden-city. By imagining the effects of primary rainforest vestiges on the organisms that inhabit these constrained spaces, the duo deploys a climate fiction that invites us to reconsider the place granted to this heritage in our daily lives.
BIO of Artist duo Ouazzani Carrier
Marie Ouazzani & Nicolas Carrier have lived and worked together since 2015.
The duo traverses various geographical spaces to compose a fictional ecosystem haunted by plants, pathologies and atmospheric phenomena. Their images, installations and infusions offer moments of contemplative reflection. These works create new balances, cycles of disappearance and regeneration, that explore the impact of disturbances on living organisms and on our intimate and collective emotions.
Ouazzani Carrier have exhibited at international biennials and institutions including By Art Matters (Hangzhou), Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum (Shanghai), Kunst-Station Sankt Peter (Cologne), La Kunsthalle de Mulhouse, Villa Médicis (Rome), La Galerie CAC de Noisy-le-Sec, Centre Pompidou (Paris), Villa Schöningen (Potsdam), Casa da Cerca (Almada), CAC Passerelle (Brest), 19th Media Art Biennale WRO (Wroclaw), 2nd Lagos Biennial, HKW (Berlin), Villa Arson (Nice), 3 bis f (Aix-en-Provence), 5th Odessa Biennale, Darat al Funun (Amman).
The duo received the 2024 Ecodesign Art Prize from Art of Change 21 at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris).
Their work is held in the collections of By Art Matters, Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum, FRAC Grand Large, FMAC Vénissieux, FMAC Aubervilliers and the Collection départementale d'art contemporain de la Seine-Saint-Denis.
