Biography of Yeo Shih Yun


Born in Singapore 1976. Shih Yun began painting after graduating from San Francisco Art Institute. Founded instinc in 2004, she has collaborated with artists from UK, US, Canada and Singapore as well as Guinness, moleskine, Smirnoff & Her World Singapore. Works in paintings, drawings, prints and books. Has also experimented with print techniques like lithography and screen-printing and painting direct on 16mm film.

Influenced by Abstract Expressionists, Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline, she is known for her strong energetic use of black ink and a passionate obsession with capturing the elusive moment that exists between chaos and order.

Shih Yun has exhibited at numerous other leading galleries in Singapore and abroad. Her recent exhibitions include two-person show titled Moments on white at Osage Atelier, Singapore, her second solo exhibition titled, blackrain and Parallel Journeys at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore. Collection includes Sheraton Hotel, Guiyang China, Fortune Plaza, Beijing China, Mr Koh Seow Chuan from DP Architects & Mr Terrence Chan from TERRE Studio. Her recent awards include the certificate of distinction & highly-commended work from 26th UOB Painting of the Year Competition 2007.

Biography of Wyn-Lyn Tan
(Resident Artist of instinc 2005-6)


In her five years of painting, Wyn-Lyn has developed a personal artistic language through the bold interplay of colour, light, texture and contrast. She obtained her Diploma in Fine Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Her works have been widely exhibited in various art exhibitions in Singapore and abroad, and are collected by both local and international private and corporate collectors. Her recent exhibitions include Exit at Intrude Gallery in Melbourne and Two Women, Two Stories at Gallery+. She is a recipient of the Highly Commended Work Award in Abstract Medium in the 22nd UOB Painting of the Year competition in 2003, and was also a selected artist for New Finds 2004, an annual showcase of new talents by the Art Galleries Association in Singapore.View her site here.

Biography of Valerie Ng(Resident Artist of instinc 2005-6)

Largely self-taught, Valerie has always enjoyed painting and creating art. She took up painting seriously in 2002 after attending the Alternative (Summer) Foundation in Fine Art, at The Slade School of Fine Art, University College of London. Her abstract paintings are created as a result of her explorations in colour, form, texture, depth, mood and movement on a surface. She won the First Prize (Abstract Medium Category) in the UOB Painting of the Year 2004 and has recently exhibited at Art Singapore, the Wetterling Teo Gallery (Solo Exhibition) and the Jendela Gallery in 2005. Biography of Chan Mei Hsien (Resident Artist of instinc 2007)


Chan Mei Hsien was born in Singapore in 1983. In 2001, she entered the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and majored in Printmaking. In that period, she discovered and developed her distinctive figurative line drawing, which she produced in her major coursework. Her prints are rich in colors, textures and random lines. In "An Eye For Identity" exhibition at Utterly Art, she featured a print series, titled "Man in Crisis". Her subjects are anonymous man in all walks of life. ‘Man’ in general terms indicate mankind, to designate any or the entire race regardless of gender. Man in their unconscious face-touching postures, man in their most natural humoristic gestures and human nature in general, are the areas which she will be continuously exploring in.
