Printmaking technique: Collage Monoprints

Statement

This 'collabprint series' is the continuation of the collaboration between Chan Mei Hsien and Yeo Shih Yun that started in 2004. This is the first time that both artists are collaborating on this medium, printmaking. The three rules of the collaboration are:

1)There will be two plates and each artist will work on a specific plate and then the two plates will be placed side-by-side to to create the print.

2)Only black ink is used.

3)The only technique used is collage monoprint.

They have chosen to use 'collage monoprint' technique which materials are not glued on the surface but are placed randomly on the plate either inked or not inked. They also incorporated direct drawing on the plates for this series of monoprints. The act of arranging the found materials in their shared studio and working independently, and spontaneously on each plate creates surprising, playful results. This 'collabprint series' is a celebration of their friendship and love of printmaking.
