Short chronicle

INSTINC is pleased to announce that, commencing in DEC 2009, it will be making use of a new space at soho2 at central, Clarke Quay in Singapore. This will mark the end of INSTINC's previous location 27 Mohamed Sultan Road in 2007/2008/2009 – three years in which the regular, additional program of artists' talks, projects, workshops, collaborations, artists' residencies and exhibitions took place. INSTINC's intrinsic vision and its ambition to remain committed in supporting all forms of contemporary art and fostering friendships and collaborations with other artists will be continued.

There is an etching press that can print up to 60cm by 90cm here. Artists who have non-toxic printmaking background and an interest to work with the press, either on its own or combine with other media will be given priority in the selection process.Artists, both local and international, can apply for this residency for a period of one week to one month to carry out a body of works. It will be a work/live space. Applications are particularly welcomed from emerging artists with interesting works and who will be keen to conduct workshop and/or artist's talk during the residency.

All in all, we aim to offer artists an opportunity to work in a new surrounding in sunny island Singapore and to interact with local artists and to contemplate upon and develop their practice and be inspired. There is no pressure to deliver finished works, however, artist should make productive use of their time and pro-actively engage with other resident artists and the wider environment.

Technical Information

Etching press, studio/living space. Access to the gym and swimming pool just outside INSTINC.

Studio Information

20 m2 open-concept space, air-con, high ceiling and good light.

Accommodation Information

Artists will live in the studio. As space is limited, spouse or friends will not be able to share.

Includes drinks and light snacks@ Opening reception and exhibition, press release distribution to all major newspapers, art & lifestyle magazines. Artist will take 100% of the sales of works during the exhibition. INSTINC will not take any commission.

INSTINC will be happy to provide a letter of invitation for accepted applicants in order to apply for grants.

Application Criteria

* Submit a current resume and/or CV in a pdf file. Pls include full personal and contact information, including email-address.

* Include 10 images of your work created in the last two years in a pdf file.

* Provide image details for each image file (title of work, date executed, media and dimensions). Add any brief narrative necessary to provide more information about each individual work.

* Project Proposal during the residency,  pls include any workshops, exhibitions, presentations and/or talks if applicable.
